Station 22 is located on the grounds of Seaview Hospital, at 460 Brielle Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314 The station consists of 6 Basic Life Support Units and 2 Advanced Life Support units. Basic Life Support units are the heart of the Fire Department Emergency Medical Services in NYC. With almost 2500 Emergency Medical Technicians citywide. Each EMT is certified by the NYS Health Department, trained by the EMS Academy, and recertifies every 5 years, to ensure up to date practice, and knowledge. Advanced Life Support units are staffed by 2 NYS Paramedics. Each paramedic is an EMT and than further trained with advanced medical skills. Intravenous fluids and medications, advanced airway management, like Endotracheal Intubation and the performance of EKG, interpretation and treatment in the field. Among these 8 units, are 1 EMT Haz-Tac unit and 1 Paramedic Haztac Unit. These units are further trained in working in hazardous material environment, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, administration of a variety of advanced medications etc.. Staten Island, also has a Rescue Medic Truck at station 23. This unit is still further trained in confined rescue and treatment. |
