EMS Week 2008 May 18-24th With events scheduled throughout the city, the New York City Fire Department's Emergency Medical Service, the worlds largest Emergency Medical Care Provider, aims to increase awareness of the important life saving work we do. We respond to over 1.3 Million Calls per year for help from victims who need Medical care, to victims of car accidents, fires, and crime. The EMS Competition consists of scenerios that are presented to EMS Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians who participate in the competition . Each crew must perform as they would in the field when faced with similiar situations according to established protocol and guidelines. Each crew is graded based on their identification of the patient and his/her emergency needs, the handling of the emergency scene, their treatment of the patient (s) and their skills at each level. The points are added up by the Medical Directors and Officers overseeing the competition and the teat with the most points wins. The winning team then proceeds to compete on the National Competition in Florida. |
